The Bryant Park Pond opened last weekend to ice skaters. Those looking forward to the cold wind and ice of winter were splashed with more sun and warmth.
Many park visitors were glad to take in the sun and enjoy winter activities at the same time.
Unusual warm temperatures heated New York throughout the week. Some New Yorkers, like Delores Torres of The Bronx, view events like the pond’s opening as the start of winter. But with temperatures in the 60s last week, Torres did not mind the last feeling of an Indian Summer.
“We’re experiencing the last surge of warmth while we all get into the festive, winter mood,” Torres said. “It’s a nice mix.”
The combination of comfortable weather and the start of the holiday season brought tourists and New Yorkers out to Bryant Park all week. In addition to ice skating, comedy shows, musical performances and food stands greeted the mass of visitors.
Below are some sights and sounds from Bryant Park from last week.
