Nowadays, getting a job is easier said than done.
The Great Recession has changed the job market. Some careers are no longer seen as desired. Two years ago, AOL released a list of the 25 worst jobs in 2010. Although many careers have become nearly extinct, there are some careers that have thrived during the economic downturn.
Some of these jobs are meant to thrive on tough times. Other careers have unexpectedly grown in opportunity. Here’s a list of five jobs that have not evaporated during the recession:
1) Financial Analyst: For obvious reasons, financial analysts have kept their jobs during the tough times. Businesses struggle to appeal to customers who now find their pockets less full than before. 2) School Teacher: Though benefits have decreased, teaching jobs are still in high demand. There will always be a need for teachers, especially because America continues to slip in the world education rankings. 3) Software Engineer: Computer science has been thriving industry for a while now. With companies still moving to build an internet presence, software engineers are in high demand. InfoWorld explained why software developers don’t need to worry about losing their jobs in the recession.

4) Nurse: There has always been a need for more nurses. This fact remains unchanged by the recession. Hospitals are still experiencing nursing shortages, as explained by Fox News. Now is a good time to receive a nursing degree and jump into hospital care.

5) Accountant: Just like financial analytical jobs, accounting jobs are recession-proof. There will always be a big emphasis on analyzing taxes. This is especially true now with the issue of cutting taxes in the forefront of the news. Even in 2001, the New York Times explained why accounting jobs will be necessary during a recession.
